The first International Symposium on Regional Reanalysis aims to discuss and promote all aspects of regional reanalyses.

The Hans-Ertel-Centre for Weather Research is hosting the first International Symposium on Regional Reanalysis from 17 to 19 July 2018 in Bonn (Germany). With reanalysis and in particular regional reanalysis data sets getting more and more attention, the goal of the symposium is to discuss and promote all aspects of regional reanalyses. We hope that such an event will function as a kick-off for a series of recurring conferences or meetings on regional reanalysis in the following years.
Two aspects, we would like to give special emphasis to:
- We will address the issue of better integrating applications and the interaction with users in reanalysis efforts by inviting speakers from this group (e.g. renewable energy, hydrology, agriculture) in an effort to enhance the outreach towards the users. Therefore, we plan to invite and encourage users of reanalysis especially outside the scientific community to join us at the symposium.
- With land surface heterogeneity being a crucial part in high-resolution modeling especially with respect to land surface changes, we will dedicate a larger part of the input data session to efforts of generating high-resolution land surface data sets (and time series of these) applicable as lower boundary conditions in atmospheric reanalysis systems as well as in coupled reanalysis approaches.
The symposium will be organized in four sessions focusing on key aspects of research on and applications of regional reanalysis:
- Regional Reanalyses - Status and Plans
- Reanalysis Input Data
- Evaluation and Intercomparison
- Applications and User-Interaction
